Where To, Generation Y?

And the final exams is here!!!

Was too bored studying Chemistry, so I decided to write something.

Anyway, lately I was listening to Gorillaz's latest environmental themed album, Plastic Beach :O... It is a cool album, tons of techno and electronic element though. Kinda gave me a brain stimulation thinking about what the future holds

Here are the album arts, in case you're trying to find it in a CD store :D

Speaking of the future, it's just so exciting and gloomy at the same time isn't it? With all the budding technologies that is coming up, coupled with the rise of environmental issues and ongoing global conflicts, one would think that at this point, it could go either way.

So, what am i doing today? Well, I'm going give you a glimpse of what Plastic Beach gave me, I'm going to do a little prediction on what to expect in the upcoming years, whether we're gonna live that long or not (we possibly could, read on :D ).

Now let's start with a recap on the major "revolutions" that shaped the course of human history shall we?

First, it was the "Hunting and Gathering" revolution. No a big deal, almost every animal hunt or forage for food. But they don't store/hoard foods for future consumption, and it was this little advantage that gave birth to a human tribal lifestyle, making the first humans "humans".

Then came Horticulture and Pastorialism. Horticulture simply means the raising of crops using hand tools, while pastorialism means the domestication of animal. Instead of finding food when they needed it, our ancestors found a way to create a sustainable food source, bringing the food to them instead of the other way round. This of course, saved tons of energy and allowed our ancestors more time to work on other stuffs, which subsequently developed culture.

Third was one of the most defining moments in human history, the Agricultural Revolution. It started off around six to seven thousand years B.C.. Agriculture allowed humans to produce a large surplus of food supply, allowing a burst of human population growth. The need for water to water the crops prompted our ancestors to settle around river banks, which gave birth to the first ancient civilizations. It was not until the 18th century that the Agricultural Revolution peaked. Then came the invention of steam engine, which sparked off the Industrial Revolution.

The Industrial Revolution changed the nature of jobs in a society. Steam engines were introduced into almost every sector of the economy, especially agriculture, replacing lots of human labor in the process. The focus of the economy shifted from extracting raw materials, to processing raw materials industrially. Not only were we mass-producing finished products, technologies were also improving rapidly, and the average human lifespan increased significantly!

Since the invention of computers, human growth had increased multiple-fold. Computers brought about the Information Revolution. Ladies and gentlemen, this is where we're in the middle of, the rise of information processing, and many refer the people born when computer technology started flourishing as the "Generation X", implying a new chapter in human history. The nature of jobs too was changed, as in the Industrial Revolution, instead of working with real objects, we're now working with abstract information. Service and creativity jobs replaced a lot of labor jobs. This is where almost aspect of human life improved in leaps due to the rapid growth of new technologies.

So where are we heading to at this point of time?

Green Revolution
The rise of Industrial Revolution slowly resulted in human "Oil Addiction". Simply put, we get most of our energy sources from fossil fuel, and as much as we like to use it, it is finally taking its toll on us. Environmental issues are not news, and it's caused by our addiction to fossil fuel as a source of energy. And today, we're at the tipping point where if the problems are left unsolved, we could go down as the generation that failed the human race.

Now I wouldn't be surprised if that happened, given that we're entangled in this messy web of connections between fossil fuel and the current human lifestyle. It would take bold steps for us to change our lifestyles to allow "oil rehabilitation".

But if we do take the first steps, it could pave way for the "Green Revolution", where we seek to reform our methods of obtaining energy to a more sustainable one. I'm predicting this to happen in a few decades, in fact, it could just happen in the next few years.

New World Order
The world has 194 nations, each with distinct government style. This is a brave prediction LOL, but I'm predicting that within 200 years, the world's nations will finally be united under a single government to form a New World Order.

Now it might seem impossible for it to happen for now, given the differences in view between the different peoples in the world. But think about it, the development of transportation technology had caused globalization, which kind of spawned a global culture.

There are nations which are poor and where the people there do not get enough exposure to the global culture, but given enough time, its growth would catch up and peak. At that moment, the global culture would be diffused into almost every society, and uniting all nations under one government is a more feasible feat, if not a more efficient, way to manage the world's resources.

=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=

The Singularity
Given the rate at which the computational powers are growing, it wouldn't be long before computer gets as intelligent as human. The term for which this event is "The Singularity". Science visionaries predicted that this would happen in around 2030.

As exciting as it might sound, it might yet bring a new problem to humankind. Think for example, what if the computers decided that humans are an inferior race and tries to terminate us? Go watch Terminator : /

Androids, human-like robots, would raise yet many issues. How would you distinguish between an android and a human, given that they have the same intelligence, same outer appearance? Would it be okay to marry an android? What about killing one? Do we need android right laws, just because they are as intelligent as we are?

=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=

Genetic Revolution
The human genome was finally cracked and published in 2003, opening new doors to the field of genetics.

As to today, humans are already quite adept at manipulating genetic materials. We cloned animals, we modified the genome of crops, we introduced genes to bacterias to mass produce stuffs. It would just be a matter of time before we start tinkering with human genome, isn't it?

The Genetic Revolution, I predict, would happen within 50 years, when our moral understanding catches up with the development of the technology.

Genetic Revolution would see human lifespan increasing dramatically, possibly extending it by 50-100 years or indefinitely. The prospects are promising, new medical technologies spawned from the understanding of genetics could greatly reduce diseases, inherited or contracted.

By breaking moral barriers, we might also see the birth of the first "superhumans", a generation of newborns genetically modified to optimize physical health, which could lead to a split in the evolutionary timeline of human race, where the rich who could afford the technology would be superior to the other humans who couldn't afford the technology.

Cloning too, might also become widespread, though absolutely immoral by today's standard. But moral judgments change with time, cloning might become morally accepted in the future.

The application of genetic engineering is almost limitless, although not all are practical sometimes. Imagine creating a whole new species of "chimaeras"?

=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=

Space Colonization
Earth is limited, soon we could run out of resources, or if we can even get that far, run out of spaces to live. Space colonization is just a matter of time, be it on the moon, or mars. It could happen much earlier than we think it will.

But the process of building a livable place will take a long time. For moon, maybe decades from the start of colonization process before we can really live there. For mars, from at least a few centuries to a millenium, due to the need to terraform the whole planet into a sustainable habitat.

In any case, it would be very uneconomical to colonize other planets at least until we start mastering ways to harness earth's resources efficiently.

My prediction? Within 100 years for the moon, 300 years for Mars.

=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=

Death of Abrahamic Religions
Now of all the predictions this one is really the boldest one. I'm predicting that the Abrahamic Religions - Christianity, Islam, and Judaism, will drop from the "Religion" status to "Cult" status, or at least a "Minority" status, within 3 generation's time from now.

Given that these religions already have a deep root within the current world societies, they would be hard to fade a way , at least not without a fight. But the increasing understanding of the universe has prompt lots of us to question the validity of many of the religious teachings. Such as the question "Is blind faith alone suffice for our life?"

On the contrary, secular movements are picking up momentum. Ever since the September 11 attacks on the World Trade Center, many people started questioning if the traditional religious teachings are still relevant in the current world anymore.

Of course, some sects of the religions adapt, but it is still stigmatized by secular advocates. Some adaptations are more inclined to the current world situation, some straying away. But in any cases, it results many different world views within ONE religion alone, and this will cause the religion to split into smaller ones.

As for the "Death of Religion"? Probably not gonna happen given that it is part of human nature.

While religion will still play a big part in human society, the definition of religion might change in the near future. Instead of being "a sacred institution that provides spiritual relief", it might change into "a socializing institution that provides moral guidance", or something like that.

Phew. That's all for my post today. Hopefully you understood it LOL!

Till next time, I'll be studying, cheers~

Odyssey No.21: College Randomosity

Wow the past week has been hectic as hell. Barely had the time to sleep at all! Well I guess it sucks to stay so far of campus, can't join the night activities :(

Anyway, I'll just kinda go through with what I did :)

14.01.2010

I went to Subang Jaya to get my college textbooks. Which is quite ridiculous considering I am studying in Nilai. Well, I went into my campus bookstore and couldn't find the books, turns out they were hiding it in a store room =_=", after I bought the books from Subang only realize that... Bummer!

Anyway, I explored INTI College Subang and also Taylor's UC. INTI Subang, so small la one building only ><... No campus feel at all leh, haha... And then Samson came and "smuggled" me into Taylor's UC where I met Wei Herng, Win Kee, Hui Yuin there too. Had a chat before Wei Herng showed me around. I do not mean to say this, but everything is mini-sized compared to INTI Nilai leh, how depressing you know! And the compound is small but they have tons of students, human traffic jam lol.

Then I kinda walked around while waiting for time top pass. Saw quite a huge food center down the street. Nice!

And they have quite a lot of facilities(expensive foods, mind you) there. But still, damn crowded la, the cars jam humans also jam. Can't imagine if I have to study here +_+

18.01.2010

My great friends made me celebrate my birthday XD. Well at first it was Zhi Lin who asked and then Natasya and then Jin Rui, then I kinda asked them to talk to each other and plan one celebration la. Three is just too much =.="

So yeah, was forced to celebrate by Nat and Zhi Lin. That day was already so tiring and then have to drive at night to Sg.Long Station One some more... Walau the eyes closing like nobody's business.

Anyway, it's AWESOME(because I'm easily satisfied :/). Kinda got messy when they started playing tho.

Chee Yern chose "Dare" and have to sing LOL!

Khai Chee and Samson rubbing noses.

Zhi Lin and Chee Yern imitating Madonna XD

Then I dunno from where they got this cake la, ice-cream punya. Luckily nobody tried to shove it in my face, or else sure damn dulan lol.

That cake, so hard until it broke the cutting knife. Haha. Imba ice-cream cake pwns knife ><.
Ah, not to mention one interesting thing happened. Jia Fuo who was driving Fui Chin to Sg.Long, ended up somewhere in Serdang, and then got his car rammed in the back which goes on to bang the car in front. I think they tried to settle the problem for quite a long time, in the end went to police station. Well, what can I say? Just another reason to laugh at him :PAnyway I have to say thanks to everyone who attended the dinner, had a fun time!

19.01.2010

I'm officially 18 on this day! :) . It's a rather normal day, I guess being 18 isn't really a big deal afterall :P.

Well, that night we had LEO Club and Adventure Club Gathering Night. I was at the venue too early LOL! The gathering starts at 7:30pm and I was there at 5:30pm! =_="

So what to do. Walk around and meet new peoples lor...

Took quite a few pictures of the set up but lazy to upload. They had all the old event banners up, Dr.Sia said it's their marketing strategy lol.

One of their banners.

Darren, VP of Adventure Club and Can Han, a regular of LEO Club.

And so, nothing much happened really. Some VIP gave their speeches, and then got some performances, and then makan, and then had some games where the objective is to get to know more peoples. But it's nice overall, I do have a sense of belonging here, can't wait for their next big event!

21.01.2010

The other day I was walking around and I noticed UN Club has set up a donation counter to collect donations for the Haiti earthquake victims. Me being busybody, I approached them and ask if they needed any help. And then the next day i was there helping out with the counter, with Karen the chairperson of UN club.

This was their counter. :)

Aftershock :O

These were the boxes. Donate and get a Hug :D

The guy from Green Knights helping out. He was standing on the bridge until we realized his shirt was putting off the donors XD

Yea it was fun, met a few new friends who were in my classes too. And I must say thanks to all the donors, especially those who took out RM50 notes and put it into the box :O. I myself I've only donated around RM5 , I dare say most of you out there are more generous than me :(.

Later that night I went for IMPAC gathering, IMPAC stands for INTI Music and Performing Arts Club.

Well, it's a simple one, not too flashy. We just had some speeches, food, and performances. I must say, although they do have a number of talented musicians, I still feel a little bit of disappointment. Their effort in gathering new members aren't that great, I only see a handful of new members, and most of them are beginners in guitar classes. Ah well, there are pros and cons for this situation which I will not elaborate.

So their performances were great! (For a small recital of course)

This session was performed by the chairperson(on the left) and his singer(dunno the name). Not too shabby, his playing style is folk fingerstyle. Like his guitar! XD

And then got a girl guitarist-cum-singer, which I did not have her photo. Quite pretty, but the most important thing is that she can play and sing lol. Talented, that's all I can say.

And then it was this group, Dr.Project from Indonesia. Cool bunch! They even played Jamie Cullum's "Mind Trick". Loved their performances!

The next session was Kevin and Seth, who played 4 songs. Seth is the guitar instructor in IMPAC while Kevin is the drums instructor. I have to say they are pretty awesome too!

Crap every performance is good to me, this must indicate that I'm still not very good haha... Nevermind, I think I'mma pick up some guitar lessons from Seth soon since he had offered to teach me personally :) . Just have to find time!

.Phew, that's about what happened for the last two weeks. Busy life I must say! Kinda regret not staying there haha, so I can't wait for the next semester when I will move in! Not to mention Natasya in moving in also. Wee~

Next up will be about the COP15 sharing we had at Sunway-UC. Will try to find time to blog about it ASAP! XD

Till next time, cheers~

2009 In Review

.
Bye Bye 2009~

Hello 2010~!

Hey guys I wish you a Happy New Year!

So for this post I'm going to write what's my 2009 is all about, the fun, exciting and unforgettable events of the year!

Of course let's start by reviewing my resolution for last year and how many of those did I achieved:

1. Winning the MSSS championship for good. - Failed to win the tournament as I was placed 12th in the tournament.

2. Scoring A for Chinese subject. - The best score for the paper was 67%... So yeah, I didn't achieve this as well.

3. Buy a good acoustic guitar costing about 400-600. - Nope, didn't buy an acoustic guitar because my parents wouldn't let me LOL!

4. Compose a full song. - I've finished 3 songs, got around 3 more still in progress! That's one! :)

5. Buy a DSLR. - Wish abandoned haha. Really can't afford to spend my money on this luxury item.

6. Quit DotA and TW by July. - Did this by June. That's two! :)

7. Performing in school at least 3 times. - Did a whooping 6 times! Woohoo! And another 3 outside the school means I did 9 performances last year, cool that's more than my previous gigs added together! :D . That's three! :)

8. Take up Violin lessons. - Nope, decided that the next instrument I shall learn is Saxophone.

9. Shoot 70+ in a golf round. - I forgot how many rounds of 70+ I played this year, probably just 2 or 3. I do remember though that I achieved this target in February during the MSSDHL @ UNITEN where I shot 78

10. Being desperately in love with someone. - Nope, didn't happened, though there were some "turbulences".

Haha I only achieved 4 out of the 10!

Now to the interesting stuffs happened to me last year! Luckily I documented all the events with the Odyssey series posts. Let me have a summary of each and everyone of the events!

Where is Ocean Avenue?

Ah, it's surprising that I've found time to blog even though I still have 2 years of Chemistry to revise in 4 days. Screw it, I'm totally not in SPM mode now, I'm guess everyone else are too.

I've been writing songs lately, I don't know what's wrong with me, it's like all the sudden these fragments of melodies are starting to bug me in my head and I can't concentrate on studying. It's like a bloody jigsaw puzzle, very very annoying indeed.

So I started to transcript those into music score, and while at that was listening to some old songs, probably from 5-6 years ago, for inspirations. I found out that most of the songs in my music folder were dated within the period from 2002 to 2007.

Hmmm....I dunno, I guess this is a sign that I'm getting old LOL! Trying to relive old memories by listening to those songs. But I have to say, the pop/rock songs from that period were probably at its peak. The ideas were quite original, the lyrics were creative and beautifully written, the melodies were nice and catchy.

The most played song in my PC were probably those from "Ocean Avenue" by Yellowcard. No matter how many times I listen to this album it just never gets old. Then I have my personal jazz favorite Jamie Cullum. Michelle Branch, an underrated country singer, also one of my favorite. Last but not least, Green Day(sort of self-explanatory).

I noticed the calibre of the pop songs being played on air in recent months, maybe years, have been going downhill. In other words, it's becoming crap.

Artistes lost their soul, driven by fame and money. More and more untalented people are being packaged nicely by agencies and turned into money-cow. They don't make their own songs, they have not much skills in music whatsoever, and they're being marketed like a pair of bloody Nike shoes. I despises these peoples, both the artiste and the agency or whoever helped those artistes along the way. It just makes no sense.

I can show you some cases:

Lady GaGa - No talent in music. Not good at singing, mind you, whatever you heard on radio or in TV was edited and mixed in the studios. She sucks at live performances. He songs are meaningless, only sing about brands and moneys and stuffs.

Miley Cyrus - Does have some amazing stage presence and I admire that, but her songs are suckish, not really her ideas, I bet his father did most of the songs (I like his father though). Again, the songs doesn't really interests me, doesn't catch my ears, no nothing. Her musical fanbase is a direct import from her Hannah Montana fanbase. People don't really listen to her music because it's good, it's because she's good at acting in her TV series, which wasn't really a big deal anyway.

Taylor Swift - Good music, noob lyrics. Again, I repeat, NOOB LYRICS!!! I can't believe she had such a good melody line for her songs and she had to spoil it with those childish lyrics. Come on la, the WHOLE album dedicated to your love story ah? I listen also feel muak already, the reoccuring theme is just too much for me to bear. =_="

All the active rappers from the States except Eminem - Overused rhythms and rhymes. Meaningless songs. Here's a quote that pretty much sums up the rap industry - "There are only one simple rule in making a hit rap song. You must talk about money, cars, drugs, guns, sex and blings in your song!"

All the winners of American Idol - The only one that is worth your time and money is Kelly Clarkson, to be honest her vocal is just too awesome. Carrie Underwood had some nice songs, but her style is country and not of the general public's interest. The others are...uh...wait...who?

And the list goes on and on...

Frankly speaking, I used to turn on MTV and find myself enjoying some great songs. Now, whenever I try to even dissect and digest the songs, I puked, this is what I think about the pop music of this era. Pure marketing, no substances. There are exceptions but you don't see that often.

Hmm... Does make one wonder, when will someone come into the scene and finally save this sick industry from becoming more ill-stated?

By the way, what do YOU think? Comments are appreciated!

Till next time, cheers~

Odyssey No.14: Asian Electone Festival @ Istana Budaya

.

Ah...Sorry for this late post, kinda felt guilty not sharing it. So here goes.

Last Saturday Zhi Lin, John and I went way north to Titiwangsa to catch the Asian Electone Festival!

Well, I thought it would be nice since it's an international competition and electone is still a new thing to me.

So we departed from the train station at 12:00p.m. , with absolutely no idea how we should go to Istana Budaya XD

Our stop was KL Sentral, we had our McDonald's lunch there.A picture of KL Sentral.

So, we took the Monorail to our destination, Titiwangsa. After another 20 minutes ride, we finally reached the last stop for the train.

Well, luckily Istana Budaya is visible from the monorail station, which means that it's within walking distance.

Okay, the walk was long. And we passed through blocks of abandoned buildings on our left, which looks haunted and very spooky...

Can you spot the ghost?

When we reached the place (it was my first time in Istana Budaya), my thought was it's quite a cool place. Took quite some photos there.

The theater in our sight!

A closer look.

The exhibition just outside the auditorium.

Beautiful neh...

Spreading the Love!

The entrance to the auditorium.

Some work of art by some local artist.

The time was like 1:30p.m., John called his teacher, Mr.Pok, who had our tickets. He came and gave the tickets to us. BUT THE COMPETITION STARTS AT 3.00p.m.!!! Aww... Came too early, no wonder the place is so empty.

Then we took out our books and study lo...SPM coming already ma...

The auditorium was opened at 2.45p.m., and we went inside to be seated. The interior was also SO COOL! XD... No la, but not too shabby either. Our way in.

This feels like "Phantom of Opera-ish"
The seats.
It's so empty :O
Aww... No chandelier leh...
We bought RM3 ticket :O

And so the event started at 3p.m., the emcee was, awful LOL! To be honest, she's not good enough, let's say, not up to par for international event la...

Okay... So about the competition it's quite entertaining, as electone can produce a piece like an orchestra.

But, there were a few things I would like to point out.

First of all, there was two contestant in the Junior Section that claimed that they composed and arranged their pieces for this competition. I'm skeptical la. One 8 years old girl compose a full orchestra piece ah? Who are you trying to bull? Mozart also not that pro la! And the other, 12 years old boy, his song is jazz wor! With jazz scales some more! Walau... I don't believe he composed that la...zzz... Seriously, what's wrong with these guys? I'm pretty sure their teacher helped them to compose the song, there's no way they could have done it themselves.

And uh, one thing I've found out, song choice is very important. Even though you are very skilled, when the song you played is shitty, you're shitty. The players there all are very pro, but some of them, their songs are just awful choice. That caused them the prizes. All the winners played impressive songs that just captivated the audiences.

One more thing!!! Banging the keyboard randomly will never win you any prizes!!!

Hmm... Nothing much then.

These are the winners for Junior Section. The winner is from Indonesia, who I agreed that he was the best. Runners-up was from Taiwan, was a bit nerdy, but hey his song was okay. The third prize... Okay, his song was nice, but I still don't think the boy composed that song.
For the Open Section, the winner was a Malaysian!!! His song was brilliantly done I'd say, he deserved the award. The second prize winner was a girl from Taiwan, she composed her own song, and it was brilliant too! Then the third prize went to a Thailand guy, it was okay, no comment. :P

Then there was a performance by the Special Guest Ayaki Saito, a professional electonist from Japan (duh!)... He was great! and not to mention humorous enough too...

And so, we left the building at 7p.m.. Tried to catch a taxi back to KL sentral since it's already very dark. Waited for quite a while before we got the cab.

The night view of Istana Budaya

The art gallery...

Night view of KL... Seriously, night photography is very interesting and fun. I wish I had a D-SLR and a tripod LOL!!!

So... Reached home at around 9pm, and there ends Odyssey number 14 :)

It was a new experience to travel in KL at night. Looking forward for my next time.

Next post - Odyssey No.15. So, stay tuned and till next time, cheers~

Pepper Spray and Balls?

Whoops, been long since I've updated. Well there's nothing much lately, just some stuffs in my life that is not too boring but not worth to be mentioned here either, that's why the lack of posting here :)

Here's a bit of my status now-

Music: Been practicing, not too much though. Wanted to compose one or two songs but can't find the time and privacy to do so. Currently practicing for the prom night performance, and conducting practice sessions for Music Club Form 2 band.

Study: Can't study lar... No time, no concentration, and tons of distractions. Gonna screw up my SPM. Subjects left to study - Biology, Chemistry, History, Komsas, Moral. Messed up my Biology exam, god knows how am I going to study Bio in Uni.

Sports: Stopped golfing for almost 2 months now. Really hope SPM passes soon so I can resume my training. Been having resistance training on my own though. Will get back into golf and badminton as soon as SPM ends. :)

Photography
: Been planning to get one D-SLR, no money leh (I want 500D only also no money T_T). Planning to go for a photography trip with my IXUS 80 after SPM, don't know, maybe some island like Redang or something, or backpacking, that would be fun :D .

Money: Biggest concern, been low on money even though I've not spent much. Damn neh..! But I have to admit la, I bought myself quite a few books about Biochemistry lately, quite expensive :O

Health: Sucks, feels like a zombie now that I've not got enough sleep even during the holidays.

Love: Feels so numb right now, someone help me?

Recent Happenings: Hmm... Not much, been to a couple of prom night meetings, and found out one interesting thing, but I'll leave it for my next post :P. Anyways, it was quite smooth (the second one I mean). Heard Nat talking about almost being robbed, she was confronted by a robber in the parking lot at Sunway Pyramid. Then she took out pepper spray and shot the guy in the face before lifting her legs forcefully into his groin area (in other words, she kicked his balls), that robber was paralyzed instantly and was later caught, OUCH! :P    Anyways it was quite funny how she explained the situation at that time.

Recent Interests: Found myself playing chess again lately, the last time I played non-stop was 3 years ago, interest stuff :P ... Been listening to a band called Big If, it was all because of Ryan Keys, they haven't released their first album yet but their demo songs are awesome! And I'm back into writing stories again, so who have any good storyline ideas that you want to be penned down please ask me I can write the story for you LOL!

Future Plans: Not much plans right now. Working on a Music Camp for next year, and then maybe will try to get a part-time job at The Guitar Store (to learn music from pros at the same time). Applying for Inti Scholarship, but either way I'll still enroll myself there (or Taylors College) for A-Levels before going into Bioscience at Taylors. Hopefully I don't change my mind about what to study again :)

So, that's about all I have to say for now. My next post, which will probably be in tomorrow or the next day or the next next day, will be about leadership (or religion, depending on my mood).

Stay tuned and till next time, cheers~

Ah!!! Preparing for exams! Had been studying History from the morning, boring la...

Anyways, sorry for not having the origin of life article posted(as if anyone would care :P), it's a long post and I need some time to do some research before I'm going to write about it, again, time is not what I have for the moment. Tribute to Michael Jackson

Note: Postponing the Cameron post since I still have quite some photos to upload.

Rise of new blood, passing of the old...

Today, the History and Geography Club held a small event as a tribute to the late Michael Jackson. The programs included performances from Music Club in collaboration with Harmonica Club and from Creative Motion Club, besides that there were also many music videos showing both studio and live performances of Michael Jackson.

We presented 3 songs, the first being Heal the World, and then Billie Jean, and lastly You are not alone.

Well, let's talk about Billie Jean and You are not alone first shall we? For Billie Jean, the running bass was almost perfect, and the electric guitar was good but fumbled a little bit, Jin Shing was a bit shaky during the whole song, maybe he's too nervous, chill out man =_=... And for the ending, I was worried like hell =_=, luckily they managed to end without screwing up the whole song, good on-stage problem solving XD

And then the next song was You are not alone. For this song, me, Nigel and John just took over the presentation on Wednesday because the others still can't perfect their songs, no point overloading them right? We only started practicing on yesterday...zzz... But no big deal la, since we always practice in the last minute for past few performances, biasa already LOL. But still there's a setback for the lack of practice, Jin Shing wasn't able to get the hang of the song. If you really really really noticed, he skipped the 2nd Chorus and went for the bridge =_=, my reaction was "omg~ what now?"  xD     But it's not bad la, we got back in two bar's time, for the audience it's just a small hiccup in a performance.

For Heal the World, it's really the first time none of the original band members from Form 5 performed in a full band. And that is why I saved it for the last. For this song, the whole band rosters are:  Yap Onn Sang - Tenor Saxophone , Ho Zhu Yi - Drums , Jeshua - Bass Guitar , Ben - Electric Guitar , Leong Zhe Hao - Keyboard 1(Piano) , Leong Shu Hwa - Keyboard 2(Strings) , Chiew Zhi Hong - Violin. Well, the whole band consisted of 7 players, and the thing that really excits me is that of the 7, 5 of them are from Form 2, Onn Sang being Form 3 and Hwa in Form 4.

To be honest, I've never felt any happier seeing someone else performing, I was seemingly touched. The whole song was brilliant, BRILLIANT! And you guys outperformed the seniors today, my salute to you. Thanks to Onn Sang for willing to play the Tenor Saxophone for this performance, I do hope we will have more performances together. My thanks to the Form 2 members for being so dedicated even though it's just one song, you guys have immense potential together, I'm looking forward to next year already, when you guys will mature into a cohesive band. My thanks to Nigel for conducting the practice to perfection, it was the great conducting that made the performance, John too for teaching Zhe Hao the keyboard for this song (even though John didn't really want to LOL!). My congratulations to Hwa for mastering the art of last minute practice XD, sorry you didn't get to practice together with them and have to learn to play everything today. And my congrats to Lixuan too, since this is your club and you managed to pull off with a great show today, Bravo indeed.

So... Just in case none of you knew, Mr. Nagaya himself came to us and praised us for the good show, no kidding! Kudos to everyone, it's really hard to get his recognition, he must've been impressed by what he saw today, and I AM REALLY SURE that it's the "Heal the World" that got his attention. I mean, all the band members are new blood and fresh faces, and it's really the first time a saxophone is used in a music band in our school, it is something special. I dare say, that in the whole Malaysia, only a handful of schools ever had this kind of band, so, to be able to walk around in school boasting that you are from Music Club is really a proud thing to do.

Phew~ So uh, Thank you again I say to everyone who was involved in this show, especially to History and Geography Club for giving us this opportunity to present our performance, and for your belief in us that we will give a great show LOL!

Just one last advice from me: Keep up the good work!

====================================================================

After the show went to jalan-jalan lor, since I have to wait for my sister until 6.45pm. Went to Mcdonalds together with Zhi Lin(went away only after ten minutes =/ ), Lixuan, Hwa and Ah Teoh to kill time :PTurned out Hwa picked the wrong place to sit lar, just below the air-conditioner. Beh tahan the cold, cold until all of us also freezing =_=Then they start gila photo already...zzz. Say want to mimic me warming my hands wa.

Haiz...So cold still want to drink cold water.

This is how both of them kill time. For me, it's sleep, blank stare and listening to songs.

Ah...Sienz...Time passed so fast, there goes a week and I'm not even into the mood yet. For next week I have to start studying already, in fact I'm already studying now, care to join me for my quest for perfection in exam? LOL!

Still, a promise is a promise, I will get the Cameron post up as soon as I possibly can, so keep checking and stay tuned.

Till next time, cheers~

Odyssey No.11 - Harmonica Festival

I went to Cameron for the last weekend for the Highlands Harmonica Festival, just to play percussions in the orchestra.

My final verdict about that trip:

I met a hell load of peoples such as music students from UCSI, players  from a brass band, students from Chung Hwa Independent High, and of course the professional harmonica players from all over the world. These guys are just interesting bunch.

But, the setback, is that the whole festival doesn't really looked like a festival at all. I mean, Cameron is a wrong choice in the first place, it's just too small, everything is in mini size. The festival is a bit disappointing, to be honest. And worst of all, I paid RM400 for a trip where I've got to perform and rehearse for most of the time and then get (almost)nothing in return, not to mention of the food we are taking. But meh, at least I've met some interesting peoples, especially Nel, Yaw, Ben and Jenny, from USCI college, they are a lame+funny bunch.

====================================================================

Well, since I've already written a whole lot of things about Cameron during my last visit, this time I'm just gonna share some photos and narrate a bit about the whole trip. Enjoy~

We exited the highway at Simpang Pulai, the place where I played the Clearwater Championship of Sportexcel Circuit every year end just in case you don't know. Took our lunch there lor. I brought the guys, including Xin, to the restaurant where I used to have my meal there during the days. Very nostalgic :P

Heh, no worries, we overtook Chung Hwa's Guitar standard already this year, and we made it within a year's time. I'm just to proud to be a part of Yu Hua Music Club  :)

And so...This concludes my second trip to Cameron this year. Nothing much to say :(

Till next time, cheers~
